Quarry

With artist/producer Quarry, one moment he’s conjuring sinuous grooves worthy of Jungle, the next he’s channelling the spirit of Jai Paul or LA Priest at their most louche, filtering the results through the prism of leftfield artist pop. This creative restlessness is the thing that unites Ash Carvell’s catalogue, and his fearlessness as Quarry makes him such a fascinating proposition that ensures his future is anything but ordinary.

 

Raised in a tiny village outside Tring and educated in nearby Aylesbury, Quarry discovered music young while being stifled by the insular attitudes surrounding him. Soon, he was drawn to provocateurs across a range of different genres (Jimi Hendrix, Spice Girls, Eminem) and realised his small-town roots to be both a curse and blessing. Quarry later taught himself production from scratch and honed his songwriting before becoming based in South London. 

 

Refreshingly direct and defiant in outlook, his output is very much a reflection of his character – unconventional, contrarian, and utterly unimpeded.
